Sées owes its rich architectural heritage to the fact that it has been the seat of bishops since the 5th century. As an important religious centre, the town was nearly wiped of the map, firstly by barbarian invaders and then by pillaging attackers during the wars of religion. Sées is made up of three old hamlets : the Bishops' village, Le Compte or Newtown and finally the Abbots' village or Saint Martin. Why not explore the cathedral, Argentan tower, the old halls, Saint Martin Abbey, the basilica of the Immaculate Conception and the palace of Argentre ?

26km - D908 follow signs for Carrouges
Carrouges Castle was originally built as a defensive stronghold back in the 14th century but by the 17th century, it was used as a family home and stayed in the hands of the same family right up until 1936. The granite lined brickwork is reflected in the tranquil waters of the moat and the exceptionally fine ironwork gates at the entrance to the gardens are the originals. This historic castle retains its homely character and charm, thanks to its fine furniture and the numerous family portraits on the walls.
