Morning
Fine art gallery and lace making museum
For four hundred years, Alencon has owed its fame to lace needlepoint, one of the most delicate of all artistic pursuits. The renowned "Point d'Alençon" style of needlepoint is at the heart of a collection devoted to the different European schools of lace making, including the use of bobbins, mechanical lace making and needlepoint.

Afternoon
Explore Alencon on foot
Alençon is unusual insofar as it is one of the few major towns in Normandy to have escaped the ravages of the WWII bombing campaigns.
As such, the town takes great care of its architectural heritage, including the Cornmarket, the Colonnaded House, the Dukes' Castle, Notre Dame Church, the Maison d'Ozé (home of the tourist office) and the house with the Venetian façade. These attractions, along with so many other gems, will encourage you to put your best foot forward down the pedestrianised heart of this lovely town.
A pamphlet guide is available at the tourist office and guided tours are on offer in the summer months.
Après-midi
Visit the birthplace of Saint Therese
Thérèse Martin was born on January 2nd, 1873 at 50, rue Saint-Blaise in Alençon. This home, dedicated to her memory, is filled with artefacts and even the family furniture belonging to her parents. A guided tour enables you to appreciate where the young Therese used to play with her sisters, the room where she was born and where her mother passed away as well as the chapel and its cupola, built in 1925 after her canonisation. You may also visit the nearby Notre Dame church where Therese was baptised. Joint visits are available in the summer months.
