Mamers and the Saosnois area

The town of Mamers is the capital of the Saosnois area and a major town in the Sarthe department.

It is a gateway to the Normandy - Maine Regional Park and is also home to the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Sarthe Rillettes (a local speciality potted meat).

Enjoy the varied landscapes in this area : Perseigne National Forest and its belvedere, the patchwork of little fields hedged with laburnum flowering in springtime and farmland scattered with charming villages as you drive along pretty country roads.

The Saosnois area was once known for the cultivation of hemp and for various forms of woodwork and the Country Life Centre and Clog Museum recall these old ways of life.
